Czech National Museum
As part of the reconstruction of the Czech National Museum in Prague, our studio recreated 426 hand-painted glass panels forming the richly decorated ceiling, dome and windows, covering a total area of 287 m².
The original glass ceiling was destroyed during World War II and later replaced by plain plexiglass for more than seven decades. Using preserved fragments, historical negatives and archival drawings, our team revived the authentic colour palette and ornamentation of the original artwork.
Led by our master painter Zdeněk Kudláček, the project required the development of a unique glass-painting technique on safety glass. For nearly a year, the team meticulously recreated each panel by hand, honouring the historic craft while meeting contemporary technical standards.
The restored ceiling and dome now fill the museum’s main hall with light and colour once again, bringing back one of the Czech Republic’s most significant architectural treasures. The work was completed for the museum’s reopening in 2018, marking the centenary of Czechoslovakia’s founding.
Heritage restored, light reborn.
